PE and Sport Premium
2023 - 2024 Sports Premium Impact Statement
Department for Education Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium:
ALL pupils leaving primary school should be physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The government has been providing additional funding for schools since 2013 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.
There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
• Key indicator 1: The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
• Key indicator 2: The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
• Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
• Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
